Within the past year, Central Iowa’s labor environment has seen a shortage of qualified workers, as well as a shortage of the skills that employers are looking for. Yet at the same time, more and more people are losing their jobs as a result of today’s troubled economy.
Iowa Employment Solutions @ DMACC and our Iowa Works programs were created to help Central Iowans overcome the current economic problems and find rewarding employment.
Since 2006, IES @ DMACC has been serving people who have been affected by business closings and layoffs . . . low-income individuals who want to upgrade their skills . . . and adult students who are challenged with balancing the demands of school, family and work. The WIA Adult and Dislocated Worker programs provide career counseling and assessment, job and skills training, tuition assistance, transportation, childcare and other kinds of support.
In less than two years, the number of people we’ve been helping has grown by nearly half, and funding for our programs has almost doubled. Recently, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act brought additional funds to help us teach the skills people need in today’s labor market. Our counselors are eager to show you how to use these resources and build an exciting new career for yourself.
Along with helping you meet your educational goals, we help people find the employment opportunities they are looking for. Our partnerships with Iowa Workforce Development, United Way, businesses and community organizations help make good things happen for the Central Iowa residents we serve.
Whether you are 18 or 65, IES @ DMACC can help you achieve your career dreams and prepare for a job you will like. We are ready to stand behind you as you begin your journey!
